The American College of Rheumatology's mission is advancing rheumatology. The organization is for physicians, health professionals, and scientists that meets the mission through programs of education, research, advocacy and practice support.
The ACR provides professional education for its members through several venues. The Annual Scientific Meeting, held each fall, is the premier scientific meeting devoted to the rheumatic diseases. This meeting draws thousands of rheumatologists and arthritis health professionals from around the world. A winter rheumatology symposium, spring clinical meetings, and other topical conferences round out the ACR's educational offerings.
The ACR publishes Arthritis & Rheumatism, the premier scientific journal for research in the rheumatic diseases. Arthritis Care & Research is published by the Association of Rheumatology Health Professionals, a division of the ACR. This journal focuses on the health services and clinical aspects of rheumatology.

The ACR/ARHP Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) is the must-attend event for anyone involved in research or delivery of rheumatologic care or services. Innovative sessions, ground breaking scientific abstracts, education developed based on practice gaps, the return of popular session formats, as well as hands-on skill training sessions are just some of the highlights. Plan to join your colleagues from around the world to discuss the latest science, research and treatment in rheumatology.
ARHP offers a variety of networking opportunities during the ASM, here are three you must attend:
- ARHP Networking Forum – offering a variety of disciplines for you to sit and mingle with while sharing, learning and enjoying a healthy boxed lunch and drinks. We also do a brief Presidential welcome, award presentations and quick annual meeting orientation.
- ARHP Networking at Noon – there are over 30+ topics offered at individual tables, you select and sit with anticipation of walking away with new ideas to enhance your offerings on the job and there will be a brief business meeting to share what ARHP has done for that year.
- ARHP Networking Break is another opportunity for you to meet new and returning colleagues in an informal setting. There are no assigned table topics/disciplines; so bring your lunch, beverages will be served.
ARHP has two online courses created to build competence in the care of persons with rheumatic diseases while providing high-quality integration into a rheumatology practice whether you have been in the specialty field for a long time, returning or new to rheumatology.
- Advanced Rheumatology Course is a comprehensive, innovative online course designed to build an in-depth knowledge of rheumatology. This flexible and affordable tool allows physicians, fellows-in-training, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and other clinicians to build competence in the care of persons with rheumatic diseases while providing high-quality integration into a rheumatology practice.
- Coming soon! Fundamentals of Rheumatology Course was created to meet the specific needs of those transitioning into rheumatology practice such as nurses, office nurses, licensed practical nurses (LPN), medical assistants (MA) and office managers or staff that could benefit from one easy-to-access online resource that offers current evidence-based comprehensive overview of the rheumatologic disorders and insurance preauthorization.
ARHP publishes the Arthritis Care & Research, an official journal of the American College of Rheumatology, is a peer-reviewed publication for health professionals interested in the rheumatic disorders. AC&R publishes original articles concerning clinical problems and research relevant to the care of rheumatic disorders as well as articles analyzing economic, educational, and social issues.
Through the ACR Research and Education Foundation, the ACR seeks to increase research in the rheumatic diseases while fostering the careers of young investigators. The ACR also works to increase federal funding for research in the rheumatic diseases. The College is also an advocate in the formulation of public policy relating to the care of people with arthritis and other rheumatic diseases.
